Grenoble is located in south-eastern France at the foot of the French Alpes and is the capital of the department of Isère in the Rhone-Alpes region. It has a population of over 150,000 people and is well known for its universities and scientific research centers. There are four Campanile hotels in Grenoble including two in the north: Hôtel Campanile GRENOBLE NORD - Saint Egrève and Hôtel Campanile GRENOBLE NORD - Moirans.
Grenoble became part of the Roman Empire in 43 BC when it was a village called Cularo, and expanded significantly when it became capital of the Dauphiné in the 11th century. Major industrial development took place in the 19th century, during which time the city’s glove industry thrived. This was followed by the development of new hydroelectric industries in the 20th century. Playing host to the Tenth Winter Olympic Games in 1968 encouraged Grenoble’s modernization and the development of new ski resorts.
