Villefranche-sur-Saône, located near the Saône river of France, is the capital of Beaujolais. Founded by the lords of Beaujeu in 1140, Villefranche-sur-Saône was originally intended to protect the Beaujolais and the fortress of Asne from the powerful archbishops of Lyon, Since then, the city has flourished industrially and economically, producing notable innovations such as the baby formula, Blédine.
