Come and explore South Yorkshire with Campanile Bed & Breakfast hotels and take a break in the growing city of Doncaster.

Doncaster, or ‘Donny’ as it is often affectionately referred to, is located in South Yorkshire and was founded in AD 71. The city was built on the site of a Roman fort, which was constructed at a crossing of the River Don in the 1st century AD. During the 17th and 18th centuries the stagecoach trade helped improve the city’s affluence, ultimately enabling Doncaster to own one of three Mansion Houses in Britain, which is used as the civic headquarters.

Doncaster is just 20 miles from Sheffield and has recently undergone reformation, epitomised mainly by the Education City campus, which represents the UK’s biggest education investment. In addition, the city has continued to grow with the Doncaster Lakeside, home to Doncaster Rovers F.C., which has also received a facelift. This redevelopment has seen Doncaster rise to the fore as both a more attractive and intriguing tourist spot.
